Terms of Service

By creating an account or using Lit🔥Land ("the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Platform. These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and Literate Limited, a company registered in England and Wales ("we", "us", "our").

• You must be at least 13 years old to use the Platform as a student. Users aged 13–17 require parental or guardian consent.
• The partner discovery feature (finding or being found by other users for language exchange) requires you to be at least 18 years old. This is enforced by our systems regardless of your other account access.
• You must provide your true date of birth at signup. Misrepresenting your age is a breach of these Terms and grounds for immediate account termination.
• By using the Platform, you represent that you meet these requirements and that the information you provide is accurate.

As a student, you agree to:

• Attend booked sessions punctually or cancel with reasonable notice.
• Treat your teacher respectfully and professionally.
• Use the Platform only for lawful personal language-learning purposes.

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

If you offer teaching services on the Platform, you additionally agree to:

• Provide accurate information about your qualifications, experience, and services.
• Conduct all lessons and communications professionally and appropriately, especially with students under 18.
• Keep communication with students on the Platform. Soliciting off-platform contact with, or personal information from, students under 18 is prohibited and will result in immediate removal and, where appropriate, reports to authorities.
• Not solicit payment outside the Platform for services arranged through it.
• Honour booked sessions or cancel with reasonable notice; repeated no-shows may result in removal from the marketplace.

Teacher earnings, fees, and payout schedules are shown in your teacher dashboard. We may suspend or remove any teacher from the marketplace at our discretion to protect the safety and quality of the Platform.

Every user can report or block any other user from their profile or any conversation. When content or a user is reported, our moderation team may review the reported conversation — including message content — to investigate. We may remove content, restrict features, suspend accounts, or notify authorities where we believe there is a risk of harm, particularly to minors.

With your explicit consent, the Platform may retrieve the transcript of your Zoom lesson recording to generate a personalised post-lesson summary and homework email using Anthropic Claude. By enabling this feature in Settings → Privacy, you consent to:

• Your lesson transcript being processed by Anthropic Claude to generate a summary.
• The summary being delivered to your email address via Resend.

You can withdraw your consent at any time. Transcripts are not retained after the summary is generated.

The Platform includes AI tools for translation, language tutoring, and transcription powered by Anthropic Claude and OpenAI Whisper. You acknowledge that:

• AI outputs may contain errors and are not a substitute for professional advice.
• You are responsible for how you use AI-generated content.
• Audio you submit for transcription is processed by OpenAI and not retained after the transcription is returned.

The companion Lit Land mobile app is governed by these same Terms. Additional terms may apply as required by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. The mobile app is for personal language-learning use only.

You agree not to:

• Harass, threaten, or abuse other users.
• Impersonate another person or create fake accounts.
• Post or transmit illegal, harmful, or offensive content.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Platform.
• Use the Platform to engage in fraud or to facilitate illegal activity.
• Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the Platform without written permission.

Violations may result in immediate account suspension or termination.

You retain ownership of content you create on the Platform (lesson materials, messages, dictionary entries). By posting content, you grant Literate Limited a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to store, display, and deliver that content solely for the purpose of operating the Platform. We will not sell or licence your content to third parties without your consent.

All Platform software, design, trademarks, and brand assets (including the Lit🔥Land name and logo) are owned by Literate Limited. You may not copy, reproduce, or use them without our written permission.

You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, with or without notice depending on the severity of the breach. Upon termination, your access to the Platform ceases and we will delete your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

The Platform is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Literate Limited is not liable for:

• The quality, accuracy, or suitability of any teacher's sessions.
• Errors or inaccuracies in AI-generated content.
• Any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the Platform.

Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death, personal injury, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded under English law.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or via an in-app notice. Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes acceptance.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
