About Alexander Penman

Native English speaker. Experienced teacher. Flexible, different methodology. Come discover some genuinely fun activities. I'm Alex — Australian, Master of Teaching, and I've been tutoring languages privately since 2017. 50+ students taught on Superprof (4.9/5 across 39 reviews), plus two years as a language assistant for the Éducation nationale in France and the Ministerio de Educación in Spain. In Madrid I taught Business English to hospital staff and worked in a language school on the side. In Lyon I've been teaching professionals, high-school students, and the occasional grandmother who just wanted to read English books. My classes aren't textbook-driven. They're question-driven and interest-driven. For beginners, we start with "what is fifty minus ten?" in English and build from there. For advanced students, we hunt down the real gaps — the kind of grammar mistakes you've been making for ten years without noticing. Either way, every class mixes structure with play: pattern-hunts, pronunciation races, debates, and real conversations about whatever you actually want to talk about — Brexit, football, your favourite show, the news, your job. I speak English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian, and I'm learning Thai. I know what it feels like to sit on your side of the desk. Book a class. Let's see what we can build.

Teaching Approach

**Flexible. Bilingual. Question-driven.**. My method adapts to you — your level, your interests, your goals, even last-minute. But if you just want to "get better at English" without a specific plan, I've run the same program dozens of times and know exactly how it should flow. Every lesson works as a question-and-answer conversation calibrated to your level. Beginners: we start with simple math questions, dates, days of the week, things you already half-know in English — so you get used to my voice, start recognising the words, and stop being scared of the language. Advanced: I show you real mistakes real advanced students make, so you can see the errors your ear has stopped catching. Along the way, we cover what you actually care about. Series and films? Explain the plot and the characters in detail. Current affairs? Give me your take on globalisation or climate change. Sports? Teach me the rules. Every class we share a live document — you see what I say, see every correction to what you say, and leave with a record you can reread whenever. Pronunciation support always; serious accent reduction if you want it. You'll leave with your mouth tired, your brain full, and the distinct feeling that you just did something rather than just studied something.
